Embracing Ambiguity with James Helms and Nikhil Dev, Feb. 20

Join James Helms and Nikhil Dev on Thursday, Feb. 20 for Embracing Ambiguity: A Case Study from Intuit, sponsored by Big Design and Dialexa.

Last year, a four-member internal team at Intuit pitched a business idea and received over a million dollars to pursue that idea full time. They got only 1 year to build a product that solves the customer problem and generates millions of dollars in revenue. Nikhil, the designer on that team, will share his experience navigating through tons of ambiguities the team faced on their way and how the they navigated through. And most importantly, how design helped in those situations.

James Helms leads the Design Team for Intuit’s Strategic Partnership Group, focused on helping accountants unlock the benefits of confidence, less work and more money for their clients. He’s also on Intuit’s Horizon Innovation Program Portfolio Review Committee and sits on the Advisory Board for the in-house start-up Sprout. A prototyping enthusiast and a bonafide maker – he credits his father for unlocking this power with a nearly endless variety of uses for an everyday coat hanger and a roll of duct tape. James has worked for agencies, consultancies and companies all over Dallas, has lent his experience to students at SMU, UTD and UNT, and is a graduate of the Visual Communications program at the University of Delaware.

Nikhil Dev is passionate about Nature, Art, Design and their intersections. He currently leads Design for one of the new products from Intuit called Sprout – which aims at helping new small businesses get started. Nikhil joined Intuit in 2014 after working with Cisco, SAP Labs, and Sanspire – his own tech startup which helped small businesses manage their operations. He holds a master’s in User Experience Design from the National Institute of Design, India and a bachelors’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
