Design has come a long way. Our tools and processes are better than ever. Design has finally transcended the idea of just making things look pretty. Design opportunities abound. On top of all that, design as a discipline garners new levels of respect that were unimaginable only a few years ago. Design is now critical to business and many brands have added the title of Chief Design Officer to their C suite. Finally, a seat at the table.

And yet, the state of design is in a funk. Design is wallowing in mediocrity. It happened so slowly you probably didn’t even realize it, like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot.
