For over 20 years, Dr. Karl Steiner has been helping companies create outstanding digital experiences through customer research. He has held roles as an agency founder, principal researcher, and research manager. As an organization leader, he has built and led research functions for Microsoft Studios Europe, THQ Inc., and now serves as the Sr. Director of Global Customer Insights for HomeAway. He has a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction, and recent areas of interest include research strategy and organizational design, combined research methods, and measuring digital experience quality.
Throughout his career Karl has been a proponent and practitioner of mixed methods research – using the right combination of research techniques to best answer a question. At HomeAway, he led the transformation of Customer Insights into a department that brought together researchers that previously worked separately, and delivered marketing, product and design defining insights through this new organization.
